All characters are the opposite sex and/or gender, and always have been. The Weyr is led by Weyrwoman Nekena and Weyrleader T'rel, who get along quite well with T'rel maintaining the Weyr and Nekena managing diplomacy, mostly through flirting. What's changed for your character?
