Height and Build: Standing at 5'11, R'lar is built solidly. Appearance: A cutting figure in his riding leathers, R'lar is built solidly, and carries himself with an air of arrogance. His short, messy hair and careless choices in clothing give him the air of someone who thinks himself above things such as delicate grooming. R'lar was one a soft son of a Lordholder, but riding has left him with worn hands, and a noticable tan. There's a long scar on his right hand and arm remains from an earlier hatching, before he impressed Bronze Kharouth.
Personality: One might describe R'lar as capable, but that wouldn't do him justice. R'lar is downright bossy, perhaps because he's always felt he had authority on his side. Despite being only the fourth son of a minor lordholder, R'lar grew up with people snapping to attention when he spoke, and as a bronzerider, he once more finds himself near the top of the hierarchy. That's not to say he's needlessly unpleasant. Ranking riders who show potential may find themselves taken under his wing, and he's always willing to assist new (male) candidates in acclimating to weyr life. Women see another side of him. Between the hold's teachings, that women are to stay chaste until married off to a man, and the weyr's teachings that women are typically available to riders, R'lar has a very entitled attitude. As women don't ride bronze and other such ranks, and can't hold positions of power aside from weyrwoman, he doesn't have much use for them.
Name Kharouth
Age 7 turns old.
Color Bronze
Place of Birth Cat's paw weyr
Current Location Cat's paw weyr
Appearance: Kharouth bears a small scar on one of his wings, where his own clumsy claws dug into the flesh during his hatching. Otherwise, he's an average, non-descript sort of Bronze.
Personality: A soft-spoken yet sarcastic dragon, Kharouth has an unusual relationship with his rider. He often comments in a sarcastic fashion on R'lar's plans, though he isn't disapproving. It's merely in his nature. Kharouth has picked up his rider's sense of rank as an all-important factor, and rarely speaks to any dragons below brown-equivalent ranks. In fact, he rarely speaks at all, preferring the solitude of his own thoughts.
History: Born the fourth son of the Lordholder of Feldspar, R'lar's early life was one of comfort and ease. Spoiled by his older brothers, he never put his mind to anything- until the day riders visited.
R'lar was allowed to meet a bluerider and his dragon, and he was instantly enchanted. He had everything he desired as a Lordholder's son, but no one in the hold could give him the sky, not the way a dragon could. Nothing held his interest long after that. He was offered apprenticeships, he was offered a position managing a smaller area of the holding, he was offered all sorts of opportunities, but he turned them all down.
Finally, at fourteen, he was allowed to go to the weyr to be searched. R'lar quickly found himself in trouble when he failed to impress, and responded with a magnificent tantrum. He was barred from standing for the next hatching, and did drudge work at the weyr for a year. It did teach him patience, though it also left him bitter. When he was finally allowed to stand again, it took a few hatchings, but he eventually was found by bronze Kharouth.
A diligent and able rider, R'lar has no regrets about the choices he's made in life. He enjoys his rank and position, and looks forward to the future with Kharouth. Unfortunately, life's about to throw a wrench in his plans.
