He's sunning near the feeding grounds with Kharouth when Lys appears. The fire lizard screeches towards him, tail flicking wildly, and R'lar puts up a hand to shield himself instead of to catch her. He's almost never seen her in such a mood, immediately, he's aware of what's about to happen. Shooing her off before she can plant claws in his arm, he climbs atop Kharouth, who spreads his wings and lifts off. In a moment, they're between, reappearing above the weyr.
There's no unbearable pressure- not like when Kharouth chases a dragon in flight- but nonetheless, there's a tension that he wants to dispel. He heads towards the lower caverns at a leisurely pace. Outside, little Lys takes to the air, calling shrilly for any fire lizards in the area to follow her. She's glowing a brilliant gold, though unfortunately, her mood doesn't match that. She's still peevish, and her cry is as much a challenge as an invitation.

Benji doesn't like Nipper. Nipper is slow and stupid and likes to steal all the fish that Nyche feeds them. So when Benji finds the little gold trilling, he decides he's not going to tell his stupid brown brother, who's sleeping with Nyche, about it. He hovers above the little gold, then waits for her to charge, and then she's off.
And he's after, humming happily, because he's here chasing and Nipper can suck it.

The bronze flit, Lucky Charm, was out and about, his human off doing boring chores. He hadn't been in the mood to stay with him, and when he noticed the golden queen glowing, his interest was peaked.
Her cry wasn't that inviting, but it was a challenge, and the bronze responded accordingly, with a challenging shriek of his own.

Maika was finished with the day's chores, and had decided to spend some time swimming in the river. Taro watched her from a tree nearby. He was small still, so he didn't want to get swept up by the current. Suddenly, a sharp cry cut through the air. Taro took flight without warning, leaving Maika blinking on the riverbank, watching the Brown fly off.
Taro stopped when he found the source of the screach. He found the Queen flit, Rising. He returned with a cry of his own, but allowed her to take to the sky first.
Maika made her way quickly to her room in the Candidate's Barracks, completely baffled by the feelings flowing from Taro through their bond. What was this? He'd never acted like this before... She settled into her bed, throwing the blanket over herself, so she could wait it out.

Chittering at her pursuers, Lys flings herself upward, wings beating rapidly against the clear sky. The little fire lizard swoops and turns and spins, doing her best to avoid those chasing her without putting too much distance between them. With a trill, she spins around and doubles back, flying just over their heads, then climbs farther into the air. She's almost close enough to touch them, and while she's quick, their smaller wings will allow them to be more graceful. She nearly collides with Lucky Charm, who's challenging shriek matches her own competitive air. With a quick spin, she loops past him, and upwards.

The bronze spread his wings, dropping down when the gold almost collided with him. He could have caught her then, if he would have tried, but that wouldn't be much fun.
He looped around, echoing her movements, and began to chase in earnest. He was the best in the bunch and he was going to prove it.

Out of left field, just like his bonded, eh? King's Gambit ducks in and out of the air like some manic bat, dropping suddenly to avoid the streak of gold that is Lys.
LATE! Oh, oh he was late, and that wouldn't do, now would it? Gambit trills and then hisses a challenge at the other males, ignoring the faux pas of being late and instead singing praises at the gold to ask forgiveness. If she forgives him, lets him chase, he'd be so happy to keep telling her she is the prettiest, lovelies, most goldliest gold ever to have graced the skies of Pern...
And if she rejects him and chases him off he's going to sulk. Still, worth a shot?

There's a cold flash from between and a mid-sized brown joins the Flight, knocking aside his Blue brother to get in line. Vaskar is competitive, and perhaps one of Nasarin's more impulsive flits. Charyn will have his head later, but he doesn't care. He bolts through the sky after the queen, letting out one of his trained songs.
Benji, however, isn't very smart. He finds himself confused, not catching her loop. It takes a moment for him to figure it out, but in an instant he's back on the trail, trying to catch the Queen and lagging at the back of the pack.

Taro kept his distance from the Gold, keeping pace at the same time. He followed her every move, watching closely. He decided to show off his agility with a few loops of his own, ending up just behind the Gold and to her right. However, he knew without really knowing that his Chase probably wouldn't last long. After all, this was his first. He was young, inexperianced. She would probably want a mate that was older, larger, and stronger than himself. But he wouldn't allow those thoughts to get him down.

Lys hovers for a moment, but her pursuers are catching up. With a shriek, she dives again. There’s a newcomer, a latecomer, and she’d scold him but she’s too caught up in evading the fire lizards chasing her, and besides, it’s flattering. Who knows how far he came from to try to reach her, try to catch her? She flits right past him, trilling as she throws herself for a loop to avoid him, then darts past Taro, nearly colliding with him.
Another newcomer appears, and this time, she nearly can’t avoid him. She barely manages to fold her wings and drop in time to avoid colliding with Vaskar, who appeared right in the midst of the flight. This takes her into Benji’s path, but he’s lagging behind, and with a few beats of her wings she’s easily out of his reach. One more spin past Lucky charm, and she’s at the head of the pack, but barely. She’s tiring now, beginning to lag.
(next post Lys will choose)
