A Ransom fit for a Queen (Bounty's Clutch)

Siarryn had been less than pleased when Bounty had flown off like that, though given his experience with her he should have known better than to expect advance warning when she was going to fly. Girl would do her own thing.

He also should have known better than to expect Gambit to have ignored her calling to him... boy was a bronze, after all.

And that had resulted in obsessive stalking of his gold fire lizard to find out where she laid her clutch, since she tended to be really fussy about that sort of thing, and he suspected she was going to try to hide her eggs... then again. One night she'd simply popped in over his head, smugly crooning and informing him she'd laid her clutch and where. Apparently she was fond enough of Siarryn to tell her handsome human where she'd put her clutch. (Gambit, however, got chased off like an unwelcome father paying alimony.) Bounty didn't seem to care much what he did with them, as long as she was allowed to keep an eye on them- apparently, from what he could tell of her intermittent burblings and occasional thought-feelings, she trusted him, and wasn't much in the way of mothering if Sia would do it for her.

So now he had nine lovely little warm eggs in a heatbox. And had been spreading word around that he had such, and was trying to get rid of them. For a price, of course. Sia didn't do anything for free (unless it involved very creative uses of rope and/or honey.)

Thus, the lemur-tailed young man was kicked back in the Weyrbowl, a large hand-scrawled sign propped up lazily beside him which read 'Firelizard eggs - 15 Marks'. He'd been spreading word by dropping little messages here and there, telling everyone he could, hinting at selling them... he just hoped word had gotten around. He was feeling kind of warm to this place, and figured he'd be a decent human being and let the Weyrfolk have at the eggs before he sold the remainder to a trader friend of his passing by soon.

"Bounty, sugar, you alright?" He whistled, and the gold stopped her preening and fluttered over to him, inspecting the eggs he'd marked with a charcoal pencil as claimed- he was keeping two, one for himself (he couldn't help it- he was sentimental to his gold, and was curious to see how her babies would turn out) and one for an acquaintance he happened to owe a debt to...

The rest of the eggs were marked similarly, with little charcoal-etched numbers on the shells, just so Sia could keep track. The man examined his nails, and then gave up on patience, tugged his hat down over his face, and resolved himself to a little nap. Bounty chirped, and curled up on his chest, watching the satchel of eggs dutifully.

From then on it was a waiting game.

It hadn't taken F'nell long to fall in love with his little green, and when he heard that one of the candidates was selling eggs, he had decided to buy her a companion, as long as the price was reasonable.

And with a sign saying 15 marks, they certainly were. The man next to them, however, seemed to be either bored, or napping, or perhaps a little of both. The gold was more alert, and F'nell assumed that she was the mother of the clutch.

"Excuse me," he said, his little green staring at the older gold. "I hear you're selling eggs."

Sia didn't seem to move, but his tail flicked forward, and after a long moment, he raised one arm and flicked his hat back, managing to make it look like the most laborious task in the history of mankind.

"Eh?" He managed, taking a long look at the (rather handsome) man, catching sight of the rider knots on his shoulder. "I am indeed, handsome." He said, his drawling words managing to drag his expression into a cocky little smirk. "You interested, I guess? Fifteen marks, take whichever y'like."

Bounty trilled softly, eyeing the man but not budging from her place on her person's chest.

F'nell merely smiled, amused at the boy's flirting. "Not a bad price." He glanced over the eggs, looking for one to suit his purposes. He didn't want one that was too large, nor too small, and he eventullly decided on a medium sized egg, with gray patches on its white shell. He thought that perhaps it would hatch a large blue or a brown, and that would work out nicely.

"I'll take that one," the brown rider pointed at the egg with the number 7 written on it. "How long do they have before they hatch?"

Siarryn continued beaming at the man, and flicked his hand once more. "As you like it, sugar. I figure I'm gonna be at th' weyr, may as well try an' give back a little. Y'know. For a price." He waited patiently as the rider looked over the eggs, Bounty keeping more of a close eye on him than Sia probably was. The gold however didn't do much when he pointed at an egg, just trilled at Sia as her human picked it up and set it aside, wrapping it in a cloth and tucking it into a small bad of hot sand.

"Not long, I think. A few weeks, a month, longest. Keep it warm and who knows? Might be sooner. S' mah girl's first clutch, could be a little hard to predict, y'know?" He nodded his head at the green fire lizard the man had, and smiled. "I take you already know how t' take care of one of these, den?"

He pulled out the marks and then handed them over to the boy with a grin. He was going to have to put down marks on this one impressing, he certainly had the right sort of attitude for it.

Ah, so he'd just have to keep an eye on the egg then. Not too difficult since he had had to do that with his little green, and he still had the pot from that. "Yeah, it's not too different from raising a dragon, except they're a lot easier to carry around."

Tera was just wandering around, her Bronze flit Fuyuki on her shoulder and Amaro walking by her side. The large canine's pelt was brindle red, and he hadn't left the child's side since the day the girl's mother was killed by Threadfall. Tera was still a bit depressed over it, but the canine and the flit had helped her out of it. It was easy for Tera to distract herself with a two-Turn-old Cane Corso to care for, and a two-month-old Bronze flit. She had begun to think that another one would be good. She wanted another flit.

She'd heard from around the Weyr that there was a Gold flit that had recently Clutched, and that Hers wa trying to sell them. She'd decided that she wanted another. Not a Gold, not yet, but a Gold later might be cool. Especially if she didn't Impress to a dragon. As long as she could work with dragons, though, she didn't really care.

She made her way to him, finding the sign that said they were for sale. Fifteen Marks. She had that much. She could buy an egg. She saw another man, one she remembered seeing on a Brown's back. She looked at the eggs, waiting for the two men to finish talking. She knealt down by the eggs, looking at them. She liked the sandy-shelled one, even if it was the biggest egg in the bunch. She picked it up, noticing the number 4 written on the shell. She stood up, carefully, and looked at the man selling the eggs.

"I'd like this one please," she told him in her little-kid voice. She was quiet, though, as she had been since her mother's death.

"Nah, really?" Sia drawled lazily, though the sarcasm in his voice was lessened by his truly genuine grin as he tucked the marks away. "I hear they're easier to wash, too. But shards if it ain' hard to get enough flitters tied to a chair to fly with, ya know?"

Abruptly, Sia's tail twitched, and he sat forward, swinging his legs down and studying the girl carefully for a bit, before she too was flashed an easy grin. "Sure thing, sugar." He purred, and, with a grin at her brown (who Bounty was chirping at happily) he scooped up the egg and cradled it in his hands before transferring it to a small leather pouch and handing it to her. "You know how t' take care of one, yeah?" He asked the girl, nodding at her brown.

Tera nodded, smiling. "Fuyuki's only two months old," she said. "And if I get in trouble, I know I have people that can help me take care of it." She took the pouch from the man, fishing into her pocket for the fifteen Marks that he was selling them for. Fuyuki chirped back at the other flit, but didn't move from his spot on the girl's shoulder. Amaro sat a little ways from the group, protective but not too close. "I'm hoping to be a Dragonhealer one day," she told the man, holding the leather pouch close to her. She was a bit more talkative, what with the Hatching coming up soon. She glansed over at Amaro, then back to the man. "Thank you mister, but I should probably get back to the others in the Creche. I don't want them to worry." She nodded to the man selling the eggs, then at the other man before walking off. She held the leather pouch close. Amaro stood, waiting for his girl. When she passed him, he turned and started walking next to her.
