Rank and Craft:
"Go ahead. Keep staring. Which of us do you think will blink first? Hint- it isn't me."
Place of Birth: Agate Hold
Current Location: Cat's Paw Weyr
Family: Unknown- she was given away. Raised by a Trader Caravan as a whole, communal living type social life.
(Mother- ?
Father- ?)
Pets:
* Firelizard - Blue (Leucistic) - Salt
"I don't judge on appearance. Others do, though."
Hair: Crimson red, often done up in small braids pointed toward the center of her skull, with the ends left loose and tangled. (Afro-mohawk-dreadlock type style.) Her hair strands are thick and stiff and prone to knotting when not cared for, so she lets it.
Eyes: Blue. Dark blue, with a metallic sheen to them in bright light. Eye color.)
Height and Build: Tall, thin, serpentine. About five feet, nine inches, very thin, svelte build, but muscular. Little to no feminine curves, slender chest, built like a gymnast.
Appearance: Naz ... likes her anonymity. While her outfit is normally rather colorful, chest and waist wraps and similar wraps on her hands and feet (typical for a circus performer) she often wears long cloaks to cover her body from head to toe, and heavy tunics over her performing clothes to stay out of sight. (She wears the performance clothes because they're easy to move in, and her job tends to be to perform for loose marks/handouts with someone on the fringes of gathers and report back to the caravan. A street performer, if you will.)
Admittedly, she's hardly a busty babe to begin with, but she does her level best to hide her gender anyway. She's long and lean, built like a gymnast, far stronger than her rather twiggy appearance would belie. She never quite seems bony, of course, it would be hard to, but she has rather prominent hipbones and collarbones, and it's easy to see her spine and shoulder blades when she's unclothed. She tends to hunch, and creep around as if she expects to be hit, or doesn't want to be seen - and she is FLEXIBLE. She can bend and twist in ways almost no one can expect.
Unlike most tailed, she doesn't have special ears or fur- well, not quite. Her ears are slightly pointed, mostly human, in a human positioning on her head. Her tail is rather more noticeable, long and muscular like a constrictor. It's usually non-mobile, held behind her and left to drag, but she can move it. She just doesn't. (When she puts it to use, the long appendage can actually be used like a monkey's tail, and can fully support her weight. She uses it when she performs... and she hits people with it.) Because the base is rather wide and thick, she rarely bothers with pants, instead opting for a waist wrap or skirt. And yes, her whole tail is covered in snakeskin.
Her whole body is covered in snakeskin. Some tailed have fur everywhere, Naz has scales. A million tiny, supple, nearly-white scales over her entire body. This means that her skin color is 'white' and it's meant literally. Pure white, with flecks of orange-red in patterns down her back and on her face. Certain 'scales' are a bright red, mostly in a pattern along her spine, and a few select scales along her lips and directly around her eyes and cheekbones, giving her a rather striking appearance. Mostly her skin is white, however, and in the right light (or when she's just showered or some such) it has a faint rainbow opalescence along it.
(Coloration and example ofSkin Sheen.)
Her eyes are large and round, and generally narrowed and staring at you suspiciously. They're a dark blue, with a faint metallic sheen to them that is typical for most serpent eyes. (She shares an uncanny resemblance to tunnelsnakes.) Like other Snake Tailed, she has a membrane over her eyes that lets her be able to go long times without blinking.
She tends to always look blank or a little distracted, as if her mind were somewhere far away- or deeply focused on something that you'll never have a hope of understanding.. She moves smoothly, and is extremely limber- part of being an acrobat. She loves to dance, actually, though rarely would let herself do so if she thought she had an audience. Her voice is low, and because of her very elongated canines, she tends to lisp slightly. While she's really quite striking, she'll never be a typical feminine beauty. She's fine with that.
"I don't want to hurt anyone...but I'll bite if I have to. Don't be surprised- you knew what I was. It's in my nature."
Personality:
* Disinterested - Nazene comes off as bored with the world. Some might call her a dreamer with her tendency of staring off into space, but she doesn't really daydream. Just... thinks. She doesn't particularly care about a lot, or so she lets people think.
* Relaxed - She doesn't tend to take life to seriously, and lets a lot slide off because it's not worth getting angry over. But DO get her angry and she's fierce...
* Swift Temper - When she does get angry is happens fast and fades just as quickly.
* Cool - She's a good person to have in a crisis, calm, rational, and level-headed. Even when scared or upset she'll try to keep cool. She likes to (privately) think she's a 'lone wolf' type person. (She actually tends to come off as lonely or arrogant.)
* Lonely - She doesn't connect well with people, so she doesn't have many friends. It gets to her sometimes even when she pretends otherwise.
* Self-conscious - She really is terrified people are watching her and judging her. This is in part why she hides herself except when she's performing... she doesn't like the attention.
* Skeptic - She tends to assume people are messing with her. It takes a long time for her to trust people.
* Realist - She doesn't really daydream or hold on to sentiment. She's practical and pragmatic, and romantic notions of 'typical' girls make her annoyed.
* Doesn't Understand People - She really doesn't get why people do things. Why they fake nice to some people and treat others like dirt, why the relations between men and women matter so much, why right and wrong are what they are and why people don't always follow the code of what's 'right.' She kind of always feels like an outsider.
* Weird - She likes strange things, can act kind of funny at times without realizing it, and generally knows she is seen as 'abnormal' by a lot of people. She's fine with that, are really doesn't care. She wonders why other people do so much... (And yet she craves to fit in... she's also a little bit of a hypocrite.)
* Passionate - certain things do make her take a stand. She just hasn't revealed yet what they are... (Injustice toward those she cares for, perhaps? At least her pets.)
* Sarcastic - She has a rather bitter sense of humor and can be known to crack jokes at all the wrong times. Definitely a sense of gallows humor on the girl...
Naz is kind of that person you find who enjoys being alone as much as she enjoys being in the company of others. Sometimes she seeks out company, but she also needs time to herself, to just gather her thoughts and relax. Crowds can stress her out unless she chooses to be in them, so she'll often seek a place to be alone and de-stress. She does like people on her own terms, however, and tends to lurk on the fringes of crowds or groups, dropping comments here and there... she tends to be awkward and afraid of butting in, but she'd really like to be included.
However, she deeply adores her works, and is very, very proud of her skills as an acrobat. She loves to move, to be active, to DO something- she might even come off as a little hyper if it weren't also for her habits of staying preternaturally still. She initially is shy about revealing her talents and tends to speak down about herself, but she really loves to show off. (She just needs to be sure someone is being sincere about wishing to see- she hates the thought that someone might think of her as a 'show-off.')
Likes: Rocks, exploring caves and deep woods, challenges, dancing, music, performing, very spicy food, warm weather, cold water, Deep Nature. She has a fondness for the weird and unusual.
Dislikes: People pressuring her, useless sentiment, lectures, people with 'romantic' tendencies or unrealistic daydreamers. (They annoy her.) Sticky things... dull-tasting foods. (She has a limited sense of taste.) Shoes. She HATES wearing shoes. She does when it's necessary, but she goes barefoot or in sandals whenever she can get away with it.
Tasath
#CC1122
Male, Red, no mutation
Decisive, dislikes when plans change, likes shiny things
Average size; will be 19 feet when grown
"They say I'm strange, picking my rider out of everyone else. But My Nazene is so Shiny! She catches everyone's eyes, so I don't understand why she hides herself."
Name: Tasath
Age: Weyrling
Color: Red
Place of Birth: Cat's Paw Weyr
Current Location: Cat's Paw Weyr
Appearance: Tasath is a lovely creature. His hide is a brilliant red, not as vibrant as some, more toward the spectrum of maroon- some might even say rust- but Naz thinks he's pretty much perfect. While his hide is solid and unmarked in any way, Naz also thinks his handsomeness is only exaggerated by this- the red, she says, accents his elegant form. (He says he's just shiny like her.)
He's a sort of feline-looking creature, with a long middle, slightly short legs, and easy sort of bouncy gait often seen in felines, and though he can be a little bit clumsy, it's less that he's a clutz and more that he simply doesn't care about looking silly. He's got broad wings and powerful shoulders, and he'll be a strong flier even for his color.
Personality: Tasath seems, at first, to be kind of a giant puppy. He likes anything that might be shiny, (and his biggest and loveliest shiny is first and foremost his rider, the shiny-ness of which he likes to boast to anyone who will listen, much to her chagrin) and he's easily distracted from a task by the lure of something shiny over there. But he's also incredibly determined and decisive, and once he's made up his mind on something, you're more likely to Impress thread and ride it like a dragon than you are to get him to change his mind.
As such, he can be a little bit hidebound at times, and stubborn as all get-out. Since he's decided he needs to make sure Naz knows he loves her and loves how shiny she is, he can often manage to push her into situations she'd rather not be in, but she tends to go along because...well. She loves him. Tasath is pretty simple, and the world is rather black-and-white to him. Complicated things confuse him, and he tends to let Naz puzzle out the hard stuff while he plays cheerleader and plays with this shiny glowy thing here.
Voice Hex Code: CC1122
"Once I've made up my mind, nothing can change it!"
"Do not look to the past, do not dwell on an uncertain future. Hope and regret aren't worth it... I live for the moment."
History: Her early life is fuzzy. She doesn't know her parents, as she was abandoned at birth. Her mother didn't want a child and never knew exactly who the father of her daughter was, and didn't care. She gave her daughter away to the first person who'd have her- which was, in fact, a Holdless caravan. A caravan which also happened to be a band of traveling entertainers.
Nazene was essentially raised by a circus.
She was trained at a young age to perform, beginning as just one of the little children who'd bring things to the performers, eventually graduating to a set assistant and setter, and eventually, once it became clear she had obvious talent for performance and loved to practice on the ropes, she was trained as an acrobat and dancer. Her favorite was the tumbling and contortion tricks, anything that meant she could balance on something and do daredevil tricks to make her audience gasp- she wasn't normally a risk-taker but she loved to perform.
She did all sorts of varied tricks and stunts and shows, picking up a little of everything as needed- both in her acts and in life. So she can manage to do almost anything she needs (within the basics) when it comes to life- a little Beastcrafting (she can guide a herder, ride a runner, etc- and she used to perform on the backs of their caravan's beasts, who pulled double duty as work beasts and show animals) a little cooking, a little wagon repair and Smithcrafting- she's a nifty jack of all trades. But it only applies to things that don;t actually require extended study to fix. She can repair a broken strut on a wagon, but when it comes to having to construct a whole new one, you're out of luck. Still- she can survive anywhere, and it wouldn't be hard for her to get by if she were forced out alone.
She didn't hate her life, not at all. She got to go many different places, and see so much of what Pern had to offer. She learned how to do so much, and she got to know little things a lot of people didn't ever get to see, the tiny secrets of the world someone bound to a Hold wouldn't notice. (She also saw chunks of half-burnt thread and what it could do- she's afraid of thread, possibly more so than most.) She had a family, even if it was a much, much larger family than a lot of people were used to. She was raised without an idea of prejudice, as everyone was accepted in the caravan as long as they could prove they would help out with everything, everything was shared equally, and it didn't matter if you had fur, scales, or skin, if you were male or female, everybody was equal.
She lived a rather charmed life, to be fair. It wasn't until she was older that she went out with one of her partners (literally- her acrobatics partner, a Human man) that she even got a taste of what people might really be like. She was given harsh looks in the Hold they visited (for trade, to pick up supplies.), and when she asked why, she was told to be quiet. She didn't understand why someone would sneer at her because she had scales, or because she was a girl. When they returned to the caravan, she tried to puzzle it out... and then her friends explained to her that because they were holdless, because they were so varied in peoples and skills and such, not everyone looked on them kindly. She frankly didn't understand at first... but as she kept ending up on the wrong side of people's opinions, she grew hardened to the fact, and came to accept it- as a fact of life, not as her own view. (She just found it stupid.)
So she got used to being treated badly, like she was a lesser being just for having been born Holdless or for being a woman. Didn't stop her from being just as strong and resilient as ever, and it never changed her opinion of herself- she always thought herself as outside normal people's lives, a spectator looking in on their private circuses. The one time she ever really felt lonely, she took all her saved-up marks and bought a firelizard egg- and out hatched a strange, white-mottled blue. Something was wrong with him...that's what she got for buying from a shady dealer- she was lucky he was even a flit at all, given he thought he sold her a tunnelsnake egg. She didn't care. Promptly named 'Salt' for his patchy, blotchy hide, he became her fast friend and companions, and now she'll rarely be seen without her little piebald blue guardian tucked into her hood, tail around her neck.
She just kept doing as she always did- they always found a shelter during Threadfall, and she had enough of the good to go with the bad that she managed to retain a decent outlook on the world, despite her lack of a typical teenage girl's flights of fancy. So she didn't always get along with others her age- it was fine. She had her caravan. Didn't need to be anyone but herself there- and she liked it that way. Still, every time she saw a dragonrider in the audience, or a search dragon passed by on the way to one of the holds, something in her just begged to get close enough to just see one... that, that was her one big, true dream, the one she buried because it was silly and unrealistic. She always wanted to see a real dragon, just once.
So if she sneaked into a Hold during a search one day... it was just to see. She swore she wouldn't make trouble, and if she just saw a dragon, she could go back to her normal life.
"Who am I? I don't know. My name is Nazene, what do you think of me? Don't answer. I really don't care."
Candidacy Opinions: She was searched, rather by surprise! She wasn't expecting anyone to search her, let alone even know she was present. She's a drudge, after all. A sideshow attraction who sneaked into the hold to see a real dragon...
Candidate's Preferred Color: None! She doesn't really think she's dragonrider material. She in fact is convinced this is all a mistake, and would they let her go already? (Secretly- she's dreamed of this forever, and longs to be able to impress- she just doubts her ability to live up to the expectations of a rider.)
Your Preferred Color: Oh lord anything. I like them all. Um... I... yeah, no, no real preference. I love queens, I love greens, I love everything in-betweens. (Anything she may Impress will probably cause her to change in some way, it just remains to be seen how.)
Injury: Absolutely! Injure her away. Please do leave her alive, but you can take it as far as you want- cripple her, take out an eye, do what you will!
*PS: Please feel free to give her (or Sia) ANY type of dragon ever. Go hog wild- I welcome and enjoy flawed and even negatively-traited dragons.
(I don't think that's a word, actually.)
