The Dragons
With the additional knowledge and assistance of the Tailed, who frequently made a point of learning about their origin, Kitti Ping and Wind Blossom were able to successfully create three sets of dragons; two diurnal types, and one nocturnal.
All three types can interbreed and produce eggs of any type. They are carnivorous, mate through flights, lay eggs, bond to humans (Tailed or Tailless) at birth in a process called Impression, and possess green, copper-based blood called ichor. They are telepathic, telekinetic, can fly, and can breath fire after chewing a phosphine-bearing rock called firestone.
A candidate's sexuality has no bearing on what dragon they Impress, though their gender does. Their sex, if not aligned with their gender, does not.

The First Set
The first set of dragons, produced by Kitti Ping, most resemble the firelizards they were based on. They are diurnal, have two knobby horns on their heads, a simple tail, and single-color hides, sometimes with marking in varying shades of their base color. They come in five ranks.

Gold
Golds are the Queens; the rulers and the largest of the first set of dragons. Their hides are metallic gold, and they reach between 27 and 30 feet in length. They are female and fertile, and choose female riders.
Bronze
If Golds are the Queens, then Bronzes are the Princes of the Weyr. These males have metallic hides, grow to 25 to 27 feet long, and are large enough to chase Golds. They choose male riders.
Brown
Brown dragons are male, and choose male riders, and are 20 to 22 feet long. They cannot catch golds, though one may occasionally try. Their hides come in any shade of brown, though they are not metallic.
Blue
Blue dragons are male, and may choose male or female riders. They are 17 to 20 feet long, and come in any shade of blue, but are not metallic. They cannot catch, and do not chase, golds.
Green
Green dragons are female, and may choose male or female riders. They are 15 to 17 feet long, and come in any shade of green, but they are not metallic. They rise frequently to mate, but are not fertile.
The Second Set
Created by Wind Blossom, with help from several assistants and reference to Kitti Ping's notes, these dragons are nocturnal. Their physical build is very similar to that of the first set of dragons, but they behave very differently; they dislike sunlight, and have difficulty seeing in it. They are, however, very fond of heat, and when no eggs are hardening may often be found sneaking into the Hatching Ground to sit in the heated sand.
As they are nocturnal, all have iridescent, pale (or silver) markings, which are highly reflective and give off heat, allowing them to see each other in the dark. Their riders will often train to see through their dragon's eyes to fight Thread at night, which tends to make them more easily overwhelmed by Flights.

Onyx
A match for the Golds, the Onyx dragons are the Queens of the second set of dragons. They are 25 to 32 feet long, female, and fertile. Their hides come in dull shades of black and near black, with markings in iridescent silver scattered across their bodies, and always on their head, tail, and the edges of their wings. They choose female riders.
Crest
The nocturnal princes of the weyr, Crest dragons are 23 to 28 feet long, and solidly colored in pale shades of white and near white. They are male and choose male riders, and like Bronzes, are able to catch Queens. Their hides are mostly dull, but will have markings that are iridescent and in slightly different colors, though still near white, on their head, tails, and wings. These markings often form a 'crest' pattern on their head, which they are named for.
Sail
Equivalent to browns, Sail dragons are nocturnal, and come in shades of white and near white. They are 20 to 25 feet long, and may be male or female, and choose a rider that matches their own sex. Females are infertile, and while males may rarely chase queens, they don't catch them. Their iridescent markings are almost always in netlike patterns of lines, which are on their heads, tails, and often almost cover their wings.
Breath
Breath dragons are male, between 13 and 18 feet long, and may choose male or female riders. Their hide is white or near white, with iridescent markings on their heads, tails, wings, legs and body, often seeming to radiate out from a central line that goes from head to tail. They do not chase Queens.
Lash
Lash dragons are infertile females, 14 to 17 feet long, and may choose male or female riders. Their hide is white or near white, with iridescent markings that tend to form lines which sweep down their body and across their wings.
The Third Set
The third set of dragons, created by Wind Blossom and assistants with reference to Kitty Ping's notes, are diurnal. They are much like the other diurnal type of dragon, but have no horns on their head, and instead have a tail that flattens out into a paddle-like 'fan' at the end, to help them steer.
Silver
Silver dragons are 28 to 30 feet long, the final Queens of the Weyr. Their hide is silver, they are fertile, and they choose female riders.
Rose
Rose dragons come in pink shades, especially lighter ones, with an iridescent shimmer. They are princes, 24 to 27 feet long, able to chase and catch Queens, and choose male riders.
Purple
Purple dragons have hides in any shade of purple, but are not metallic. They are 21 to 23 feet long, and may try to chase but do not catch queens. They are male and choose male riders.
Red
Red dragons are male, 18 to 20 feet long, with hides in any shade of red. They do not chase queens, and may choose male or female riders.
Orange
Orange dragons are female, 16 to 18 feet long, with hides in any shade of orange. They are infertile, and may choose male or female riders.
As a result of Wind Blossom succeeding in her attempt to create nocturnal dragons, no watch-whers exist.
