Sort of a tangent rather than a thread, but yeah. I love these particular two too much to leave them hanging, and they really only work together...
On a different site, (one designed around mutated/'crippled' dragons, or dragons who would be of little use on Pern) I had a pair of riders... impressed to the SAME dragon. I've seen dual impression done, and got interested to see what happened if a dragon impressed two people...at the same time. Just walked out of his shell and picked TWO bondeds and that was that.
Thus, A'gar and L'iyr. Their dragon was a big ol' brown boy who never shared with them WHY he chose both of them, but things got uncomfortable rather quickly. First off, they can feel each other. The way a dragon and rider are bonded to each other, the riders appear to be bonded by proxy. While each has a much stronger bond to Einherjath, they can still manage to tell where the other is, what he's feeling, and almost manage a sort of telepathy like between dragon and rider. (Their relationship to Einherjath is normal...) It's lessened by far when they're apart from each other, but seeing as how the usually have to cohabitate... they know a lot more about eachother then they ever would like to. Dragons don't judge or care about their rider's deep dark secrets or the strange things humans hide from the rest of the world, but when it's two humans with that sort of bond, they quickly begin to hate eachother.
And of course, that's ignoring the fact that they happened to be polar opposites to begin with. But yeah. It;s been fun so far, but it's so hard to work out if there's any possible way to link them on another site, where such a thing would normally be a death sentence... I've tried it with twin dragons, but it still doesn't work as well as them being massively uncomfortable with one another and knowing WAY too much about each other. (Or being able to end arguments by simply glowering at one another and having the entire fight mentally and via rude hand gestures.)
Weirdly Einherjath never seems to care if they fight, just sides with either one or the other as he sees fit...
I dunno. I always liked this idea, but it's hard to find a way/place to play it...

I can't think of any obvious way to have this happen, but if one can be thought of, I have no objection to it.
Or, this being the IAC category, it could just be a world where Impressions are not quite so strict as on Pern. The Pern-ish site I was on had gryphons that had evolved instead of bioengineered dragons, which led to a pair of gryphons bonding to each other, and interesting scrambling about just how that pair fights. A few more odd bond types, and we could have a pretty interesting collection to dump in a world and play with.
Him. And now I'm imagining dragons that breath water instead of fire and have to kill thread with that.... That would probably be unrelated though.

Something I think would be interesting is the reverse of that. Like, a person Impressing two dragons at once. I know that would probably end up being really bloody and such, but it is something I would like to see.
And, Whim, what about dragons that breathe freezing mist that freezes the Thread instead of burning it?

Two dragons for one person is something I've thought about, actually. It'd be very hard to keep out of both Sue and favoritism territory, though, so I don't think it will ever happen in official Cat's Paw. It can certainly happen all you want in alternate worlds, though.
I was thinking of water in relation to the Eastern dragons being connected to rain/water/weather, but freezing mist could definitely be a form or extension of that. Maybe a Pern where each color breathes something different?

I was actually just thinking that it could be a seperate mutation of dragons that have previously only been up North, and because of that have a thing called Ice Stone, rather than FireStone, which then creates the freezing mist instead of flame. Like, the dragons adapted because Firestone was hard to find so far north. And yes, I do keep bringing things back to my Gemstone dragons idea, but not intentionally.

Canon Pern is very scifi based, which I don't think would make icestone fit into it or main Cat's Paw very well. It can certainly happen in alternates, though.

Ice stone could be plausible...Fire stone is phosphine based which reacts with some gas/substance in a dragon's second stomach (or maybe the main stomach, can't remember, thought it was a second organ...) ....
Perhaps... a type of stone with nitrogen laced through it, triggered by the frost dragon's internal chemistry into a breathable mist form of liquid nitrogen, essentially being a freezing breath spray...
Hmm. Just a thought? (Pern with different sdragon colors breathing different ways makes me thing of Dungeons and Dragons in the best way... actually, if I look it up, most of THOSE types had relatively plausible explanations for each breath weapons...black dragons had a highly toxic body chemistry and only ate carrion, thus their breath weapons was poison gas and/or acid... Blue dragons stored chemical electricity and channeled it out in a giant spark, thus 'breathing' electricity... [blue dragons were also magic, so.] I think with a bit of mumbo-jumbo science [meaning 'it doesn;t have to be perfect, it's sci-fi HAHAHAHAH'], it could easily be done!)
And...double impression is hard, sure. I don;t think it's terribly difficult to play off, actually. It kind of depends on the personalities given to the dragons. Say, a pair of twins, hatched from the same egg? I could easily see that as plausible... It kind of depends on the dragons, and who gets what. A queen would likely never allow a shared rider, but maybe a green and a blue, or some of the 'lower' colors... it also depends on how deeply you feel the bond will grow. I don;t see it happening with a fully grown dragon and a baby...
But hm. On the site aforementioned, with the 2-human-1-dragon bond there was ALSO a 2-dragon-1-hum,an bond. I think it was... a mutated blue-white chimera, and a bronze? The bronze bonded first, to his human, and then the little white hatched and was so weak he just reached out to the same human. He also half-bonded to the bronze, so all three were interconnected, and most of the way it worked out was that the bronze was the 'main' dragon, carrying the human (as the white/blue was barely large enough to carry a human) and that he relied on the support of the bronze and human so much that the bronze kind of viewed him as a 'little brother'...
But... i dunno. A particularly needy or jealous hatchling would probably never stand for sharing his or her bonded...
(Whim, jsyk, I am now contemplating a way to MAYBE try the two-human-one-dragon bond here... but i dunno. Would you ever alolow that in cat's Paw canon?)

I like your thinking. I never actually went into the chemistry aspects of Firestone, so you make it sound a lot smarter than I did. XD

Ahaha... I really just remember that from whatever references I used to do a dragon biology/anatomy write up for another site...
like, that's literally the only thing I remember. (That and OLD firestone- the stuff they used in the Kindan/3rd pass (ish?) books was explosive around water and the NEW firestone they used in the main trilogy was much safer...)

I think it is a second stomach/separate organ that digests firestone. At least, the dragons that throw up 'waste' firestone never throw up food along with it, which I think would be hard to do if they were in the same stomach.
The firestone gas doesn't ignite until it contacts (presumably a significant amount of) oxygen, which is how the dragons don't burn their throats and mouths and die. If a cold breath could work similarly, with not becoming cold until it was out of the dragon so that the dragon wouldn't die from freezing their throat and mouth... I have no idea how that would happen, but that's the particular bit that makes it seem implausible to me (from a scifi context, anyway). If we could get past that, I have no problems with ice-breathing dragons.
I was, actually, thinking of water-breathing dragons simply gulping down water, storing it, and then spitting it back out (probably several times) when needed, then going between to the sea to get more, possibly taking their riders underwater.... Kinks would have to be worked out of course, but it wouldn't be as difficult to work around as something that would kill the dragon.
My biggest issue with two people to one dragon is OOC, what happens if one person goes inactive and the other doesn't, or they disagree about how the dragon should be played, or... so any chance of that would be limited to two characters who are candidates at the same time and written by the same person, which limits it a bit. IC, how to have the dragon choose both instead of one or the other, I'm not sure of but could figure out if everyone really wanted it to happen. So: If everyone wants it to happen, and the right characters appear, I'd be okay with it.
As for twin dragons to one human... I once saw a site where the admin's (twenty year old or so) senior queen rider had Impressed twin golds that hatched from the same egg, and one was constantly changing colors of gold, and the other was somehow simultaneously "all the colors of gold" at once. >.> So that's what I associate with two dragons one human. I can think of ways to have it happen... though I'd want to do some research to see if two anythings hatching from the same egg is possible, or if they'd just die due to lack of nutrients/the shell being too small/whatever. Even if it's not I can think of a way for it to happen, but similar to two humans to one dragon, I'd want to make sure that no one minded the plot before having it happen.
(Basically, if you ignore homophobia/transphobia/feminism/racism/other such civil rights issues, I'm prettymuch okay with anything happening, so long as it's not going to upset everyone on the site.)
