When Eirlys woke up that morning it had been with a sharp gasp with sweat streaming down her face mixing with tears that had been sliding down her cheeks. She felt her Gold firelizard Seren nuzzle her sleepily while Hravarth wrapped his paddle like tail around her comforting. It's ok you're safe Eirlys. he said to her, his mental voice comforting and soothing wrapping her in a warm blanket of affection. You're in the Weyr, they can't hurt you anymore. Seren trilled as if agreeing with Hravarth, and Eirlys raised a trembling hand to stroke both of them. I know, Hravarth. It's just it was so real. Her whole body continued to tremble as she soaked in the comfort offered by them. Why don't you go visit the eggs? Hravarth asked nuzzling the top of her head with his snout. It'll remind you that there is still good in this world, I'd like to see them as well. Eirlys laughed shakily but nodded, a part of her realizing that she also wanted to see the eggs. Standing up shakily, she pulled on a dress that had been hanging in the cave, and pulled a brush through her hair. Leave it down today, at least for now I like it like that. Hrovarth said, voice warm. She nodded, and smoothed the dress with shaking hands, it was forest green with silver embroidery and black trim. She'd given up on black mourning dresses early on in her stay in the Weyr to help her mask but she'd refused to give up on the mourning of her Trader Caravan so kept a hint of black on her clothes at all times, sometimes more obvious then other times. The sleeves on the dress were down to her wrist hiding the scars that littered her arms.
After getting dressed and her hair in a semblance of neatness she headed out into the corridors, Hrovarth at her heals like a puppy although to her it felt like a guardian watching her and offering his protection, with Seren sitting on her shoulder offering a firm support. Still she was hyper aware of her surroundings and conscious of the knife that she kept on her person just in case. The hatching grounds were empty at the moment much to Eirlys's relief, she'd hate to bring her mask up so early in the morning especially after the nightmare.

Boredom, that's what he was feeling.
Sia leaned back and had to catch himself as he remembered there wasn't really anything behind him. Nice. His long tail flicked behind him, leveling out in a long black-and-white banded streak behind him as he balanced, peering over the edge of the ledge he was standing on. Hm. Perhaps this wasn't the best idea of him. Then again, he really hadn't thought about that half a candlemark ago when he'd started the climb... oh well.
It was kind of a nice view up here. Wherever here was. He glanced around, trying to figure that bit out. He didn't know the layout of the weyr yet, having kind of just gotten there two days ago, forcibly marched in by a greenrider he had an unfortunate blood relation to. He found the place...limiting. Not small, but it was really very odd to be faced by the realization he really was tied here until the dragon eggs hatched and did their thing. It was making the man feel oddly claustrophobic. Nowhere to run, nowhere to escape to, no freedom to up and leave if he so wished. It grated a little.
He frowned at the sight of a flash of gold and bronze that heralded the arrival of his partners-in-crime, and he held out his arms for Bounty and Gambit to land on. The pair of firelizards perched on either shoulder and chirped their nonsense-updates of the day at him, constantly talking over eachother and generally making no sense beyond a pervading mental sense of 'Food-shiny-wind-red-warm-food!'
Siarryn took that to mean they'd been raiding the kitchens. And since Bounty smelled like Vanilla and Gambit had cake on his head, this was probably the right guess. "You two are going to get me in so much trouble." He muttered to the flits, and the arch look his got in reply from Bounty simply said 'Oh, like you don't do that yourself.'
Sia shook them off and jumped off the ledge.
Again not his best idea. Better planned than most, yes, because he did have a general sort of idea where he was intending to land, yes, it was that ledge over there, and he made is, in fact, but then that required a better jump to a different ledge to keep himself from falling the remaining twenty feet to the main floor, and the jump from there was awkward and he might have screwed it up, landed on his ass, fallen over backwards, and rolled down a flight of stairs.
Laying on his back and making a soft, confused sort of wheezing noise, he was really just glad no one else had seen that.
Gambit patted his forehead with one teeny bronze claw and sent him sympathetic feelings. Bounty just laughed at her silly human. Siarryn swore at them both.
Upon getting up, of course, slightly dusty though no worse for wear (though rather embarrassed) he retrieved his hat, straightened his long wherhide coat, straightened his vest (a fascinating shade of violet today), generally made himself presentable- and promptly forgot where he was, where he'd been going, and realized he was completely lost.
"Aerial mapping was not my bes' idea given my lack of... aerial...ing." He muttered to himself. Finding no recognizable landmarks, he just grinned, popped his hat back on over his ears, and did what he did best- wandered aimlessly. So when he ended up passing a giant doorway-type-thing pouring out enough heat to make his fur stand on end, he couldn't help but peek in.
"Hoo boy, so THIS 's where they keep th' dragon eggs." He spoke, again to himself. Strangely, he didn't even register the large red dragon nearby- there was something far more interesting here right in front of him. Bounty, however, was watching the rider, dragon, and strange firelizard very carefully, clinging to Sia's shoulder like some cross between a leech and a vice- either way, she was NOT letting anyone near HER human-thing. Sia didn't appear to notice.

Eirlys had been leaning against Hravarth soaking up his presence trying to banish the dream from her mind when she heard someone speak. Instantly on guard she spun around, grabbing her ever present knife that had been an Impressing present from Rasui and crouching into a fighting stance eyes darting around trying to find the closest exit. Seren appeared in front of her, chattering angrily at the man who'd startled her human, Eirlys caught -Protect- repeated over and over again, while Hravarth rumbled angrily wrapping his tail around her.
"Who are you?" she demanded, mask slipping over her even as her body remained tense although she released herself from her fighting position. "'Cause like no one's here this early, and I don't think I've seen you before." She paused then added with a fake pout. "I thought I knew everyone in the Weyr at least by face, I'd like totally hate to be slipping." She felt a tendril of amusement come from Hravarth as she put her hand on her hip as if put out by the fact she might not know everyone. Seren flew around still projecting protectiveness, and Eirlys called out lightly. "Come here Seren, no one'll hurt you." She watched the man warily, noticing the ears and tail. "Oh, you're a Tailed, did you know I love Tailed people? They're so hugable and cute." she giggled while inside she felt cold.
'Why did he have to interrupt me know?' she wondered bitterly, 'I was starting to calm down..it's just my luck.' Patients Eirlys maybe he will give you his name and leave. Hravarth said, and she muttered back Optimist before turning back to the guy, acting like she wasn't talking with Hravarth. Seren came back projecting disappointment and she reached up to stroke her gold scales soothing.

Sia whirled on his heel, red eyes going wide in startled fear as he instinctively and unknowingly did exactly what the woman did and pulled a knife from his belt. After a moment he calmed down, of course, forcibly willing the fur on his tail to settle from the puffed-up reaction it had taken. He placed his hands down at his sides, tucking the knife away again and holding up his hands. He did his best to appear relaxed, even going so far as grinning and holding his hands up, palms out, to reassure her.
"Who'm I? Siarryn, pretty thing." He said with a laugh. "And you don; have to know me. I'm new. Da' brought me in a day or two ago. Haven' had time t' make rounds and send a card to all you oldtimers." Cheeky little grin again, and he tilted his head in a little bow. Bounty remained stoic and not amused on his arm, growling softly at Seren. She didn't like the other gold at all right now and -!!!!
Sia had grabbed her off his arm, tucked her under his coat, and gone on as if nothing at all had happened. "Sorry 'bout her, she a vain little monster. Sweet, worth every quarter-mark I didn' pay for her and -"
He fell into silence abruptly, and went very, very still. Even his tail, which had been lightly flicking behind him, froze, and settled around him in a defensive-appearing curl. "I beg your pardon. What?" He hissed, tucking his head low and giving the girl a glare that would have murdered her if looks could kill. "We're what? You bloody well touch me and I will SHOW you what huggable and cute means to me."
He'd been all fine to apologize for startling her a moment ago, but that comment? Rubbed him the wrong way. So now he did NOT feel like apologizing, and, in fact, was wondering exactly how much trouble he'd get in if he punched a dragonrider. Mind you, he wasn't seriously entertaining the idea, but he was offended now.

Eirlys watched the man held out his hands to show that he meant no harm but didn't relax his muscles. "I see, good I'm not slipping." she grinned cheerfully, mentally making note of the name and face putting it with all the others in her vast collection. "My name's Eirlys of Red Hravarth, that's Seren but you probably all ready know that." She grinned brightly returning the bow slightly although she kept a wary ear out for any noise that might mean he was attacking. "That's fine, Seren can be pretty over protective of me. I swear she thinks I'm dumber then she is. Of course I wouldn't trader her for anything in the world as she was a gift to me by a very close friend of mine." She made sure to play it off as if she had many friends and most of them close to her like she always did when talking about Rasui. She flinched backing into Hravarth as she coward in the face of his wrath it was to early for her to do anything but fight the fear that was curling inside of her. "I know that." she murmured clinging to the soothing vibes that Hravarth was sending her while he barred his teeth at the irate Tailed. "You guys just look it, I'd rather hug bunnies or some animal." And Rasui she added mentally attaching to that strain of thought, he let her cuddle sometimes when he wasn't flirting with anything that moved or mooning after the one who stole his heart. Don't let him frighten you Eirlys, you're safe here. Hravarth said softly, full of concern. "I'm sorry if I insulted you," she said after a moment spent gathering her wits about her. -This is why I hate people.- she thought in a moment of lucidness. "It's to early in the morning for me to be watching my tongue, it's no excuse of course." While she apologized she kept against Hravarth's flank in case he decided that it would be alright to attack a dragon rider. It was hard to keep up her mask especially after the nightmare and she was struggling with it even as Seren chattered angrily obviously feeling her fear.

Siarryn flinched back almost immediately at the reaction by the woman. Took it too far, hadn't he? Not that he normally had anything like a temper, but there were those very few things that set him on edge- people touching him happened to be one of those things. He'd overreacted. (Just- one too many incidents of someone ignoring his need for personal space against his will, and he'd gotten a bit fussy.)
He sighed, and stepped back again, widening the distance between them- and not just because of the bared teeth of the red dragon. He really was trying to be polite. ...ish."Ah'm sorry." He said finally. "I should be used to that reaction, dear, 'm just a lil' touchy today." He muttered. " I amm insulted, mind you, darl'n, but you don; have to apologize." He almost felt bad. Admittedly, he was still a little sore about some quip like that just because he happened to be fluffier than a good number of people, but he could tell he had done something to upset her. And he knew she had a reason to be upset, he really was too touchy on that subject. Huh. Who knew turns of picking up on people's gambling tells would come in handy.
He didn't know what to do then, so he just turned his back to her and looked back at the eggs. Eventually, he leaned against the railing surrounding the sand and let out a long sigh. "You're a dragonrider. Don' watch your tongue on my behalf, dear. I shou' know better than to yell at someone with a giant telepathic reptile attached to 'em." He smiled at her over his shoulder, apparently having given up on being affronted and switching to his more typical tactics of charming smiles and smooth words.
"Pleasure to meet you, Lady Rider Eirlys and Hravarth. Wan' to start over, or will you accept tha' we mighta both been off and get past it, eh?"

Seren hovered between the two of them as if trying to decide whether attack Sia or comfort Eirlys when Sia spoke. She froze but nodded, she could understand being touchy since she'd reacted poorly herself to his anger. Remind me why I don't start up a whyr for animals again? she asked Hravarth who'd relaxed only marginally as Sia turned his back on them, although he kept his tail wrapped around her almost as a barricade against any memories or emotions that could overwhelm her. He laughed mentally, amusement washing over her like a crashing wave. Because it would be hard to fight Thread remember? He replied, just as Sia was speaking again. "That's fine, I should probably remember to think before I speak." she said, shakily, "I'd like to think that even if I have a giant telepathic reptile attached to me it shouldn't make me any better then any other person." She cocked her head slightly to the side as if deep in thought. "Does that make any sense?" she asked sounding confused.
Inside though she was confused at his words, she never forgave someone once they hurt or insulted her but really she'd been at fault in the first place. Her words had caused his reaction which had caused her panic attack, but still....Then say yes, what's wrong with giving someone a second chance? Hravarth asked quietly, Because I never give people second chances, they never deserve it anyway! Eirlys replied, Then just this once, give him a clean slate for me. She sighed mentally and said brightly. "That sounds great! So what brings you here to the Weyr?" she asked curiously.

Sia tapped the side of his forehead with a little smile. "Th' telepathic reptile thing does generally make people think twice about messin' wit' you, dear. Lots' people afraid of dose teeth. " He joked lightly. Actually he more than anyone should know how easy it was to insult a dragon by insulting her rider, Eamith had slapped him upside the head with her tail more than once when he'd pissed off his father too much.
"But I get what you're sayin'. Equality and what, right? Nice sentiment. I don' think there's a lick o' truth in it, but it's nice." He shrugged, not particularly wishing to delve any further into a conversation about the extents and depths of the morality of humanity.
She didn't appear to answer immediately, and he sneaked a glance over his shoulder to watch her. He wondered if she was talking to her dragon- he'd noticed when his father spoke to his dragon, the man tended to zone out ever so slightly, and he was searching to see if he couldn't pick up a similar sort of thing from her. He couldn't quite be sure.
"What brings me to th' Weyr? My da, for starters." He said, turning back to her with a rather amused grin. "He's a rider here, an' his green done decided to bring me out here on the drop of a hat to be a candidate. Not what I wanted, but I can't argue with 'er, can I? And my Da sorta punched me when I tried to ignore him. Three times." He held up a finger. "I ran three times, not he punched me three times. Only punched me twice, third time he jus' hit me wit' a stick an' tied me up." He blinked. "Do I have a weird relationship with him, or does tha' sound right to you?"

"That's good," Eirlys said softly her tone bleak before she forcibly pushed her mask back up and said with false sadness "I don't see why anyone would want to hurt me I'm just a Thread fighter." She couldn't help but wonder what had happened to Sia to get him to be so down on equality before remembering that she didn't really have a good view on humanity either. Maybe before back when she still lived with the Caravan before everything had disapeared faster then a strand of Thread killing some poor defenseless animal she wouldn't have viewed humanity, and yes that did include Tailed, so darkly but then everything happened and she was left mentally scarred for life. She listened to him, and her eyes widened slightly as she realized that he was a candidate for the next clutch. However before she could process the thought and follow where ever it would lead her he spoke again and this time she had to fight tears that were threatening to fill her eyes. Mornings were not the best times to deal with memories especially this one. " I dunno," she said mentally running through sentences that would let her escape without telling the whole story. "My dad would of wanted me to do what I wanted unless it meant getting myself killed and my father he would have been proud of me no matter if I accepted the Search or not. Of course I don't know your family so who knows?"

Sia cocked his head to one side, and one ear twitched slightly as he thought about this. "Din' say anyone would wan' t' hurt you, sweetie. Jus' sayin' equal isn't as equal as people think. Dragonriders can be a world apart, see? Not all o' you, sure. But some..." He really didn't have a bad view on people, he thought to himself. Just pragmatic. People weren't all sunshine and rainbows, where you had that you also had the thread-ash of the world, the bottom-feeders and those who'd get ahead by any means. Then again, Eamith had told him once or twice that dragons picked the RIGHT people... so maybe dragonriders really were a cut above the rest.
Then again, his father was one and he was just as human- yes, general term for all non-dragon humanoids, tailed, tailless, whatever- as the next guy.
"Ah. S'vyr's a good man, don't get me wrong. I love my father- we're just a lot alike." He said with a grin, switching tracks abruptly. "Pa'd never make me do something he didn't think was good for me. 'Sides, dear, I think it could be interestin'. Why, you gonna say your handsome gent there wasn' worth it?"
Then- another pause. Siarryn's tail flicked once, a nervous, sudden gesture that belied his rather intense train pf thought. "Sug, you alright there?" He said softly. Something in her voice had him on edge- he may have been grasping at straws, sure, but he thought maybe she was hiding something. Something in her voice, maybe a shake of emotion or just not enough, like she was playing too cool. Again, it might be him being too careful, but he played way too many games of poker to not catch on to a tell when he thought he saw one. And if he was wrong and she blew him off so what? He was nosy.
